Known primarily as a broadcaster and actress, Lisa Guerrero is also a mosaic artist. Although she has drawn illustrations for years, in early 2009 she learned the basics of mosaic structure in a workshop and began transferring her pop art images of women into this ancient art discipline.
In her series "Kitchen Bitches," Lisa explores the theme of gender and cultural stereotypes of women in the kitchen. Each piece is an actual water-resistant mosaic backsplash built onto Hardie Backer. She hand cuts all of the glass, mirror and ceramic, then attaches the tesserae before grouting. Next, Lisa adds the kitchen utensils, jewelry, bottles or glasses. On some of the work, she hand paints details and then each piece is sealed.
All of the "Kitchen Bitches" are one of a kind and can never be reproduced. Each piece takes between three to five weeks to complete. Whenever possible, Lisa uses recycled, found objects and vintage jewelry, usually from her own collection.
As an illustrator her influences have been WWII pin up calendars, 70s era pop art of Wonder Woman, and Betty and Veronica from the Archies comic book series. She has also created a graphic novel character called "Fabiola Fantastica," a Latina Superhero who "fights crimes of the heart."
As a mosaic artist, she also designs and builds custom kitchen backsplashes, fireplace surrounds, giftware and even a pizza oven! Some of her collectors are baseball star, Johnny Damon, KISS guitarist, Tommy Thayer, and she has been commissioned by the Davis Love III designed Golf Course and Spa, Diamante Cabo San Lucas.
Lisa is currently the Chief Investigative Correspondent for Inside Edition, the first female with that title in the show's 22 year history. Prior to joining Inside Edition in 2006 as the West Coast Correspondent, Lisa spent 14 years as a sportscaster including stints on Monday Night Football (ABC) and The Best Damn Sports Show Period (Fox Sports). As an actress she starred in Aaron Spelling's Sunset Beach (NBC) and guest starred in numerous shows, such as Frasier (NBC) and The George Lopez Show (ABC) –playing his sister- before Executive Producing and starring in the award winning family film, A Plumm Summer (Paramount), alongside William Baldwin and Harry Winkler. She will also be making an appearance in the upcoming Moneyball (Sony).
